Our Story
Cimarron Equine Sanctuary & Center For Learning is a 501c3 nonprofit currently near Bickleton, Washington. Our EIN number is 84–1742918 Cimarron Equine Sanctuary & Center For Learning is an organization dedicated to providing a permanent home for horses in need, in a space that allows horses to thrive in a natural herd environment. Cimarron Equine Sanctuary is located on a 100 acre ranch in south-central Washington. We conduct equine facilitated workshops that provide an experience for people to learn the ways of horses, and the results are that people access their natural self with no judgment, no aggression, no anxiety, and finding balance through the horse-human bond. Our organization was officially formed in March 2019, however we have been providing a sanctuary for horses since 2015. Our journey began with a single horse that needed a home; A horse that had been bought and sold many times and found herself abandoned and starving. The first step began with a father introducing his daughters to horses and all there is to learn from these magnificent creatures. It seems the love and well-being of horses is contagious as the daughters and many others have continued with horse advocacy. With the rescue of this single horse we learned about the plight of horses in the United States. We learned that when many horses become aged, injured, or deemed no longer useful for human entertainment or recreation, they are sent to auction and purchased by people who in turn export horses to be slaughtered in Canada or Mexico. The United States exported over 47,000 to slaughter in 2022. In addition, many horses are casualties of circumstance, be it economic or other.  Horses are abandoned in pastures or small confinements across the country to suffer abuse, neglect or starvation.  After becoming aware of the plight of our equine friends, it was impossible to turn away. We love animals and I sought to teach compassion and empathy to my daughters. We considered the challenge and decided on a way we could contribute to a solution. We encountered more and more horses that were abandoned, neglected or endangered and being sent to slaughter. In the beginning, it was one horse with a foal, but there are so many that need help. Along with close friends, we financially supported the sanctuary. As more horses came under our care we formally incorporated as a nonprofit in order to generate the financial support that is required to provide care for these wonderful beings. We need financial assistance from the global community that cares for the well-being of animals.

Values
We value an environment that honors the horse - human bond. We believe there is no place for dominance in horse care and equally that horses have great value as teachers and healers. We value compassion, empathy, and kindness in our interactions with other sentient beings and people.
Vision
Create a haven for horses, where they can live out their lives, free from threats or harm. We aim to provide a transformative horse-human experience, fostering connections and facilitating profound learning between people and horses on an intuitive level.
Our sanctuary offers a nurturing environment for individuals to connect with horses and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Through their interactions with these majestic animals, visitors will have the opportunity to explore and deepen their self-awareness, encompassing their emotional, physical, mental, and conscious being.
We believe that by establishing a profound connection with horses, individuals can enhance their relationships with other sentient beings and their surrounding community. Our goal is to strengthen the bond between humans and other species that share our planet, promoting a deep sense of interconnectedness and compassion.
At Cimarron Equine Sanctuary and Center for Learning, we envision a world where horses and humans coexist in harmony, where personal growth and understanding are cultivated through meaningful horse-human interactions.
